When WWII was over and we came back, we became aware and conscious of the difference between being a state and being a territory. The governor of Hawaii was chosen by the president of the United States and not elected by the people of Hawaii. Various federal department and functions that affected your daiily living like head of the post office, federal immiigration department, and all of the federal agencies like social security, judges, all the judges in the territory was chosen by whoever was the president of the United States and the people of Hawaii had no choice on who was the judges. We had a representative who represented Hawaii in Congress, but he had very very little power if anything. The people of Hawaii had no voice.
