Why is Hawai'i a state?
How did it become a state?
What were the conditions that led to statehood?
What are the benefits and disadvantages of statehood?

These questions cannot be answered universally for all, but individually, they are necessary if we are to understand our history and the social and political climate of this place.

Statehood Hawaii acknowledges the difficulty of this fiftieth year of Hawai'i's statehood and seeks to understand, first and foremost, the people and communities who have contributed, to the 1959 statehood plebiscite, and the results of that decision.
